# Anedot Application

Submit an application to open a fundraising account. Setup typically takes a few minutes.

{% hint style="info" %}
The Account Owner must be the person with **legal and financial authority**, as listed on official documents. Accepted roles depend on your organization type and are listed in [What do I need to apply for an account?](/get-started/apply-for-an-account/what-do-i-need-to-apply-for-an-account.md#additional-requirements-by-organization-type). This is required for KYC/AML compliance.
{% endhint %}

Before you begin, review [What do I need to apply for an account?](/get-started/apply-for-an-account/what-do-i-need-to-apply-for-an-account.md).

If you do not finish in one session, the application is saved as a draft for up to **60 days**, then deleted automatically.

**Apply:** [anedot.com/accounts/application](https://anedot.com/accounts/application)

## Completing The Application

Fill out the application to the best of your knowledge. During verification, Anedot's Underwriting team may contact you to confirm or clarify details.

A clear descriptor helps donors recognize charges and can reduce chargebacks and refunds.
* Public phone number
* Public email address
* Public address

Anedot makes the organization's public email and phone available through the donor portal ([DonorSupport.com](https://www.anedot.com/donorsupport)). Donors must log in with the email used for their donation. Anedot does not offer a public directory of accounts.

{% endhint %}

* Additional supporting documentation (optional)
* Supported files: PDF, JPG, PNG

### Connect Bank

Anedot uses [Plaid](https://plaid.com/) to verify banking details.

1. Click **Connect Your Bank**
2. In Plaid, click **Continue**
3. Select or search for your bank
4. Enter online banking credentials
5. Enter the verification code from your bank
6. Choose the bank account to link
7. Review terms and click **Connect Account Information**

If Plaid verifies with a **micro-deposit** ($0.01) instead of online banking credentials, enter the code from the transaction description. For finding the deposit and resolving **Verification Unsuccessful**, see [Verify a bank account with Plaid micro-deposit](/get-started/apply-for-an-account/verify-a-bank-account-with-plaid-micro-deposit.md).

Connect a **business checking** account in the organization’s name (for political accounts, the candidate’s or the committee’s name). Some banks are not accepted; see [Banks We Do Not Accept](/get-started/apply-for-an-account/what-do-i-need-to-apply-for-an-account.md#banks-we-do-not-accept).

If you connect manually, upload a voided check or signed bank letter that shows the printed account name and the full account and routing numbers. Handwritten details are not accepted. Provide the **ACH routing number**. A wire routing number will cause deposits to fail.

### Financial Authority

One individual must accept **Financial Responsibility** to submit.

The Account Owner is the person with legal and financial authority, as listed on official documents. Accepted roles by organization type:

* **Political organizations and committees:** the candidate, the treasurer, someone named on the filing, a signer on the bank account, or a key executive such as the campaign manager. For PACs: the Executive Director, the Treasurer, or a signer on the bank account
* **Nonprofits (501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4)):** a C-suite officer, Executive Director, Board Chair, or President, matching your filings
* **Churches and ministries:** Lead Pastor, Executive Director, Board Member, or Treasurer

If the applicant cannot accept Financial Responsibility, select **"No, I am not the Account Owner."** Invite the appropriate person; they receive an email with instructions. After sending the invite, the current user may exit. The invited Account Owner completes and submits the application. See [Organization Information & Account Ownership](/settings/setup/organization-information-account-ownership.md) for ownership after approval.

#### Verify identity with Plaid

Similar to bank verification, Plaid verifies the individual accepting Financial Authority. The user confirms phone number, date of birth, and Social Security number.

Opening an Anedot fundraising account is similar to opening a bank account. As a registered payment facilitator, Anedot follows FinCEN guidelines, including verifying the Principal (Owner/Financial Authority). Only the Owner provides full demographic details, including SSN, under FinCEN and the Patriot Act (reauthorized in 2020).

More detail: [FinCEN FAQ](https://www.fincen.gov/sites/default/files/2016-09/FAQs_for_CDD_Final_Rule_\(7_15_16\).pdf) (especially Questions 11 and 18). Questions: [Support](https://www.anedot.com/getsupport).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.anedot.com/get-started/apply-for-an-account/anedot-application.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
