# Custom Domain & Email Branding

Use your own subdomain for Anedot Action Pages, check its status in Settings > Configuration > Domains, and send donor emails from your own email domain.

A **custom domain** lets your Action Pages use your own subdomain, such as `give.yourdomain.org`, instead of the standard Anedot address. A **custom email domain** lets donor emails come from your own domain. Our Support team sets up both, and you can check your custom domains in **Settings > Configuration > Domains**. This article covers how to request a custom domain, review its status, and set up a custom email domain.

## Before You Begin

* To view the Domains page, you need **Account Management: Edit Account Details and Configuration** permissions.
* Have access to your domain's DNS settings, or work with the person who manages them.

## Custom Domain for Action Pages

Anedot gives every account a standard Action Page address, such as `secure.anedot.com/your-url-slug`. You can also connect a subdomain you own, for example `secure.yourdomain.org`, `donate.yourdomain.org`, or `give.yourdomain.org`. A custom domain can help if you run Facebook ads, use conversion tracking, or want an address that matches your organization.

### Request A Custom Domain

To request a custom domain:

1. Go to **Settings > Configuration > Domains**.
2. Under **Request a custom domain**, click **Contact Support**, or email our Support team at <help@anedot.com>, and tell us the full custom domain you want to use, for example `give.yourdomain.org`.
3. After we approve the request, sign in to your DNS provider and add a **CNAME** record:
   * **Name:** your subdomain, for example `give`
   * **Points to:** `domains.anedot.com`
4. If you use Cloudflare, set **Proxy status** to **DNS only** for this record.
5. Save the record.

DNS changes can take up to 48 hours. When the domain is connected, it appears on the Domains page.

### Check A Custom Domain

The Domains page lists each custom domain connected to your account:

* **Domain:** the custom domain.
* **CNAME target:** where the domain's CNAME record should point.
* **Status:** **enabled** when the domain is active, or **disabled** when it isn't.

To add, change, or remove a custom domain, contact our Support team.

{% hint style="info" %}
For Facebook domain verification, verify your root domain, not the subdomain. For `secure.example.org`, verify `example.org`. See [Facebook's domain verification guide](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/486887258499153).
{% endhint %}

## Custom Email Domain

With a custom email domain, emails such as donor receipts and abandoned action reminders are sent from your own domain, for example `friends@cityfoodbank.org`, instead of an `@anedot.com` address. Custom email domains are available on request. Contact our Support team at <help@anedot.com> to get started.

### Set Up a Custom Email Domain

To set up a custom email domain:

1. Go to your DNS provider and add a **CNAME** record:
   * **Name:** `anedot._domainkey.yourdomain.org`
   * **Points to:** `customer-email-dkim.anedot.com`
2. Update your **SPF** record to include `include:customer-email-spf.anedot.com`. If Anedot is the only service sending email from the domain, the record looks like `v=spf1 include:customer-email-spf.anedot.com ~all`.
3. Contact our Support team to finish setup on our side.

{% hint style="warning" %}
A domain can have only one SPF record. If you already have one, add the Anedot include to it instead of creating a second record.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.anedot.com/settings/configuration/custom-domain-and-email-branding.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
