# Account Closure

Close your Anedot fundraising account with help from our Support team: export your records, settle a positive or negative balance, and request closure.

**Account closure** stops your fundraising account when your campaign has ended or your organization no longer accepts donations. Closure is handled by our Support team at <help@anedot.com>, not in Settings. Before you request closure, your balance must be settled: transferred to you, refunded to donors, or paid in full if it's negative. This article covers how to settle a positive or negative balance and request closure. You can ask us to reactivate your account at any time if you start fundraising again.

## Before You Begin

* Anedot can't hold a balance on a closed account. Your balance must be $0 before we close it.
* The closure request must come from the account **Owner** or **Principal**.
* Export the financial records you want to keep from **Finance > Transactions** before you request closure. See [Transactions](/finance/management-and-reporting/transactions.md).
* If you need a short break instead, see [Pausing Your Account](/settings/other-actions/pausing-your-account.md).

## Step 1: Settle Your Balance

### If You Have Funds Remaining

To receive your remaining funds:

1. Go to **Settings > Finance > Bank Accounts** and make sure your connected bank account is still active and able to receive funds.
2. Go to **Finance > Transactions** and export your financial records.
3. Contact our Support team at <help@anedot.com> and ask for a final transfer to your connected bank account.

### If You Can't Accept the Remaining Funds

If your organization can't receive the remaining funds, you can refund donors from within your account. See [Refunds and Voids](/finance/management-and-reporting/transactions/refunds-and-voids.md).

* **Full refunds** return the total donation to the donor. Processing fees aren't refunded, so full refunds may leave a negative balance.
* **Partial refunds** can exclude processing fees. Confirm the amount with the donor before you refund.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Partial refunds are final. After a partial refund, no more refunds can be issued for that transaction. If needed, refund any remaining amount to the donor yourself, for example by check.
{% endhint %}

To finish settling your balance:

1. Go to **Finance > Transactions** and issue the refunds you need.
2. Download your transaction data.
3. Once your balance is $0, contact our Support team to continue with closure.

### If You Have a Negative Balance

To settle a negative balance:

1. Email our Support team at <help@anedot.com> to arrange repayment.
2. If your connected bank account is still active, we debit the amount from it directly.
3. If your bank account is closed, pay the balance one of these ways:
   * **Electronic payment:** Pay at [secure.anedot.com/anedot/payments](https://secure.anedot.com/anedot/payments), then let our Support team know you've paid.
   * **Check:** Make the check payable to **Anedot Inc.** with your organization's name in the memo, and mail it to the address below. After you mail it, email our Support team the date you mailed it and the check total.

```
Anedot Inc.
3723 Greenville Ave
Ste 41002
Dallas, TX 75206-5311
United States
```

## Step 2: Request Closure

When your balance is $0 and your records are exported, email our Support team at <help@anedot.com> and ask to close the account. The request must come from the account **Owner** or **Principal**.

Our Support team follows up with a confirmation once the account is closed.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.anedot.com/settings/other-actions/account-closure.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
